Anxiety symptoms are prevalent in our community. CBT based therapies including cognitive challenging, relaxation and controlled breathing techniques are effective. Treating underlying conditions such as depression or ADHD can also be very helpful in relieving worries and fears. However, despite personal efforts and otherwise effective therapies, chronic anxiety may remain overwhelming for some. This may lead to lifestyle problems such as – compulsive behaviours; avoiding leaving the house; inability to work; needing constant care from family members. There is a focus on identifying triggers and symptoms and providing specific medical treatment to mitigate these with a goal of improving functioning and lifestyle.
