Mood Disorders

Mood disorder problems are mainly related to depression or bipolar disorder. Treatment resistant depression (TRD) may occur when there have been a number of trials of medication or other treatments such as TMS or psychological therapy but the person has not recovered. It is possible for adults of all ages to experience this problem which causes reduced quality of life and inability to achieve important life goals such as for study, work, or relationships.  Possible underlying causes of chronic depression are explored and balanced treatment offered with intention to minimise side effects and improve daily functioning and lifestyle.

Bipolar Disorder is a chronic and often debilitating condition consisting of alternating depressed and elevated mood with the greater burden usually being depression. There is a focus on prescribing mood stabiliser medication to optimise effectiveness and minimise side effects. A wellbeing plan is also developed in collaboration with the individual based on understanding early warning signs of illness to help avoid relapse.
